Seonggeun Kim
Daniel Seonggeun Kim is a promising young conductor based in Germany with significant experience conducting a wide range of repertoire, including symphonic works, opera, and contemporary music.
Daniel Kim commenced his Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar in April 2018, graduating with honors in spring 2022. He then proceeded to complete his graduate program at the same institution in 2024 and is currently pursuing his Konzertexamen.
In Weimar, Daniel Kim had the privilege of studying with Nicolás Pasquet and Ekhart Wycik. Additionally, he received lessons from renowned conductors such as Michael Sanderling, Christian Ehwald, Mark Heron, and Gunter Kahlert.
Daniel Kim has extensive experience working with a number of professional orchestras, including the MDR-Sinfonieorchester, Jenaer Philharmonie, Staatskapelle Weimar, Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, and Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra. His recent performances include conducting the MDR-Sinfonieorchester in Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite (1919) at the Prizewinners' concert, serving as co-conductor for the Musical Director Dennis Russel Davis in Charles Ives' Symphony No. 4, and making his debut with the Leipziger Universtadsorchester in Gewandhaus.
In the field of theatrical works, Daniel Kim assisted General Music Director Markus Frank in Alexander Zemlinsky's opera Der König Kandaules at the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau. In the 23/24 season, Daniel served as assistant conductor to Principal Conductor Domink Beykirch in the new production of "Capuleti e i Montecchi" at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar.
Daniel Seonggeun Kim was the prizewinner of the 2024 Conducting Competition of the Music Universities in Middle Germany. He has served as Music Director of the Collegium Musicum Weimar (2019-2023), as a guest conductor of the Akademisches Orchester Erfurt, and is currently the Music Director of Leipziger Universitätsorchester. Daniel has also been a fellow of the Forum Dirigieren program since 2023, which has provided him with numerous masterclasses and concert opportunities.
